How does a Christian Entrepreneur find God in their business? We all know that we need Him. As Christians, we understand that prayer is vital to our walk with God. So, how do we get on the same page of God? It boils down to prayer.
As water is to the human body, so is prayer to child of God.
Most Christians do not have a special time with God. If that is the case, then how could even approach God with our business? We must understand that our walk with God comes first. After that, then we should approach God with our business.
The amazing thing is that God wants to hear our prayer. God wants to be our life. When He steps in and arranges our life, it is truly amazing thing. Why? Because God is all knowing and His “foolishness” is greater than the wisdom of men. Therefore, we can trust Him as we seek His direction, help, and blessing for our businesses.
So, what should a Christian Entrepreneur pray for?
The Will of God
When approaching God on behalf of our business, we must truly seek His will. As individuals, we often think our plan is best, therefore we ask God to give us exactly what we want. Often, the will of God may be different than our self will, so when we do not receive what we ask for, we become upset.
How do I know? Because I am ashamed to admit that I have been presumptuous with God and my business. I have been in a place where I thought I was right and that my way was best, only to find out two things:
- God’s plans are ALWAYS best
- My plans would end in catastrophe if they were accomplished
When seeking the will of God as a Christian Entrepreneur, we must understand that truly laying ourselves down before God and asking Him for His will may change our lives. I don’t want to scare anyone, I just trust that you understand that the Will of God brings both blessings and burdens. In all of this, we can trust that God is in control. His glory will be shown and our better is what He has in His mind.
Wisdom from God
When thinking of wisdom, one cannot help but think of King Solomon. When given the opportunity to receive anything he wanted from God, King Solomon asked for wisdom. We find that if any Biblical person was a Christian Entrepreneur it was King Solomon.
People literally came from all over the world to seek his advice. It was this advice that led to him becoming the wealthiest man in the known world. Where did this wisdom come from?
That simple. He asked God for wisdom, and it was given to him. The great thing about wisdom is that anyone can have it:
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
~ James 1:5
Here is a quick tip to receiving wisdom from God. The book of Proverbs was written by King Solomon. There are 31 chapters, just as there are 31 days in the longest of months. You can read a chapter for the day. For instance, if today is the 1st, then read Proverbs chapter 1. On the 2nd, read Proverbs chapter 2.
Keep doing this for each day of the month. Take notes about the Biblical principles in this book. There are everyday life principles every Christian should follow, so apply them to your life. In all of it, there are also Biblical business principles Apply those principles to your business.
Pray and ask God for wisdom and seek it in His Word.
The Ability to Meet Needs
As mentioned before, I believe that a truly successful Christian Entrepreneur will Meet Needs. Why should people give you money for your business if you are not helping them? This is the “secret” to every successful business. Really, it can be traced to the simply principle of supply and demand.
Yet, you as a Christian Entrepreneur should have a desire to help no matter what our reward is. Why? Well, if you are saved, God calls you to be a “debtor”. In serving others in the name of Jesus Christ, we are serving Him. At the same time, we are worthy of our work, so there is no harm in asking for compensation.
With that thought, we need to ask God to give the ability to see what people truly need. When we see the need, we must then ask God to give us wisdom as to how we are to address the need, which will help both your business and your client/customer.
The Blessing of God
In every business, the owner is in it obviously to take care of him/herself and their family. That goes without saying. So, as you seek God’s will & wisdom to Meet Needs, you should also seek God to bless your business.
This blessing can come in many forms. One way, which is what most people seek for, is the financial blessing. Let me say this. Money isn’t everything. In fact, some of the reason we may need financial blessing is because we never sought the wisdom of God. Therefore we are put in a financial mess. That is not God’s fault, but ours (my rant for the day).
Back to the point. Yes, there is no shame in asking God to bless your business. Often, people think you are greedy for wanting to be blessed. Can I ask you this: So you want God’s cursing?
No one wants that! Rather, you should make it a priority to seek God’s blessing. While you seek His blessing, please remember the following:
- Always give God the glory for what He does in every situation and outcome
- Make sure your motives for success are in line with God, His Word, & His will for your business and life
- Be sure to give back to God as He commands in regard to tithes and offerings
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
~ 1 Chronicles 4:10
Faith to Move Forward
You as a Christian Entrepreneur will be looked at as a person of courage and vision because owning a business it tough. Face it. It’s not easy to own a business, much less a successful business. As you travel on the road of life, you WILL face storms and trials. People are watching you.
Don’t give up!
This is why you must pray and beg God for faith. Faith is what will move you forward when no one believes in you. Faith will help you when everything falls a part. Faith is the key to moving forward when it seems like you are at your lowest. You need faith.
What is faith? It is trusting that God is in control as you truly set out to follow Him. Can I say this dear Christian Entrepreneur? You must trust God in everything. You must believe God in everything.
Maybe, you are like the father that came to Jesus asking for help on behalf of a loved one. His prayer was:
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
~ Mark 9:24
Just come to Jesus Christ and ask Him for faith. Get in His Word, and let it build your faith. Get around another Christian Entrepreneur and let their faith rub off on you. As you do this, seek God and ask Him to give you great faith.
Prayer is needed in your personal life and your business life. Please make prayer not just part of you life…make it your way of life:
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
~ Philippians 4:6
